VICTORIES

There are two kinds of victories in the weight loss battle: food victories and exercise victories.

Food victoires are easier because they are passive: just resist a food temptation and you are victorious. Like this weekend when the evil girlscout cookies were sitting under my nose at work. I resisted, ergo victory. Easy peasy.

Exercise vitories are much harder because they are active - they require you to get off your duff and do something active. My recent exercise victories have involved my husband's death march - a 2 mile trek to and from the nearest big intersections. And today I achieved that victory,
YAY ME!!!

Weight loss plan

Obviously, trying to lose fifty pounds is a big task. So easy to put on weight, so difficult to lose it. My husband tells me this is an evolutionary stroke of genius, designed to protect the cavemen who only ate fatty foods a few times a year when they managed to pull down a mammoth. But I have a love of mammoth Cheetos, and I certainly am able to indulge more than a few times a year, so evolutionary design has bitten me in my very large butt.

Step one to weight loss is to join a weight loss program with proven results. I joined Jenny Craig, which has worked for me in the past. They sell you the food, weigh you each week, pat you on the back when you do well, and look stern when you don't. It is a good program and the food is excellent.

Step two is to have incentives - the carrot and the stick approach. My stick is the family beach vacation coming up in July, during which time I will have to wear scanty clothes and be viewed by my darling, skinny, sisters-in-law. My carrot is to reward myself for every 1.5 pounds loss. It may seem like a low threshold, but it is a grinding task to lose 1.5 pounds steadily week after week. So I really need the carrots.

For my carrots I have visited Etsy and lined up many pieces of jewelry that I like very much. For every 1.5 pounds lost I get to buy a piece. This is a brilliant strategy since, every time I wear that jewelry, I will be reminded of my SUCCESS!!

Why is 2012 so lucky?

Welcome 2012!

When I was a schoolchild in Canada I had a lucky number. This was not weird - all my friends had lucky numbers. I understand that this was not an American "thing", since none of my current American pals have, or admit to having, a lucky number. Anyway, my lucky number was....wait for it... twelve!!!

Since this is the only year I will ever live in with the number 12 in it, I have decided that this is my lucky year.

What to do with a lucky year??? So rare, so precious, so short.

Well the first, most obvious goal is to win the Lottery. So my plan is to buy a Powerball ticket every week for a year and see what happens. Chances are I will win something, even if it is only 3 dollars. Chances also are that I will NOT win the big one. But... this is my lucky year, so you never know.

The next, more realistic (hopefully) goal is to lose weight - major weight. Since having my thyroid removed in March I have packed on 20 pounds, on top of the 30 pounds I packed on in the previous (unlucky) years. So it is time to say bye to a large portion of my person.

I pledge to blog about my 2 goals this year. At the very least, I expect my weight loss dreams to come true in this, my lucky year.

Disclaimer: this blog is for me. If you stumbled upon it, stop reading, it will only bore you.
